Wednesday, January 4, 2006; Day 1 (12:15 dismissal)

 

TLW review information from Spanish I

1) As students walk in to class, they pick up their workbook and textbook.  They may find their own seat.  Must cover their books, do book checkout form.  They will keep this book.  (15 min)

2) Go through rules and class procedures. (10 min - 25)

3) Write on board:  Say in Spanish - Introduce yourself, say age, where from, 3 things that describe you, 2 things that you like, 1 thing you don’t.

     ex.  Me llamo Sr. Gibbons, tengo 31 años, soy de Bellevue, soy guapo, inteligente, y gracioso, Me gusta enseñar, escuchar música, no me gustan los tomates.

     You have 10 minutes to prepare. 

     Have all students say.  (40 min - 1:05)

 

Thursday, January 5, 2006; Day 2

 

TLW review information from Spanish I

1) Ask ¿Qué hora es?  ¿Cuál es la fecha?  ¿Qué tiempo hace?  Call on one student to answer, other student to remind class how answer derived. (10 min)

2) Place the “preguntas para la entrevista” (p. 64 of the Around the Block book)  Allow students 15 minutes to answer the questions for themselves, then they will go around as ask others the questions.  Must ask a different person each question.  When done, each student will be asked to read an answer that was given  Must give complete sentences.  Must hand in their paper when done. (45 min - 55)

     (10 points)

3) In groups of three, students will do the Plan de Actividades p. 44-45. On student acts as recorder, one researcher, one reporter. (25 min - 1:20)

 

Friday, January 6, 2006; Day 3

 

TLW review information from Spanish I.

 

1)  As students walk in the door, hand them a card that has a grammar category and a 1, 2, or 3 written on it.  Grammar categories:  noun/adjective agreement, -ar verbs, -er/ir verbs, ser, estar, ir and tener.

     Students get together in groups of the same words.  In their groups, students discuss the rules, conjugation, etc. of their topic.  EVERYONE must write out the rules.  Then, as a group, create a worksheet practicing your topic.  Again, EVERYONE must write.

     Switch to number groups.  Each person takes a turn describing their topic.  Then, complete worksheets as a group. 

 


Monday, January 9, 2006; Day 4

 

TLW be able to use vocabulary related to vacationing and sightseeing.

 

1) Ask students ¿Qué hora es?  ¿Cuál es la fecha?  ¿Adónde te gusta ir los fines de semana?  ¿Adónde fuiste de vacaciones este verano?  Call on various students to answer. (15 min)

2)  Go through the vocabulary for Chapter 7 on OT.  Students do not need to create flash cards. (35 min - 50)

3) Do text 2 and 3 with partner, then as a group.  In part 3, students tell about their partner, using fue (15 min - 1:10)

4) Assign PW. 7-1, 7-2

 

Tuesday, January 10, 2006; Day 5

 

TLW be able to use vocabulary related to vacationing and sightseeing.

 

1) On board:  On a piece of paper to be handed in, write out the anwers to questions 4 - 6 on page   .  You may not work with anyone; if you have questions, raise your hand and I’ll get to you as quickly as I can.  This will be graded.

     Allow students seven minutes to complete.  At the end of seven minutes, students have three minutes to compare with their partner.  Turn paper in.  (15 min)

2) With partner, compare, then trade and grade assignment.  (PW 7-1, 7-2) (15 min = 30) (10 points)

3) Do writing exercises A & B p. 41.  Compare with partner, then pair share.  Must talk with group on other side of room.  When they agree on an answer, entire group must initial papers.  Call on various students to read.  (15 min - 45)

4)  In same book, do audio activity 1. (10 min - 55)

5) Hand each student a travel itinerary.  They need to tell other students, in Spanish, the name of their trip, where this trip goes, and three things they can do on this trip.  Students have ten minutes to prepare.  Sentences should read:  We should go to ___ in order to ... Then we can go to___ in order to...  etc.

     As you are listening to others’ itineraries, choose one and write three reasons why you would like to go there.  You can write on the paper that you have written your itinerary.

Wednesday, January 11, 2006; Day 6

 

TLW be able to use vocabulary related to vacationing and sightseeing.  TLW use vocabulary related to weather and clothing items.

1) Have board races with vocabulary  (10 min)

2) Take quiz 7-1, 7-2.  There are 34 possible.  You need to do 30.  There is no extra credit.  I will count the FIRST 30. (25 min - 35)

3) Watch video A & B.  Do not need to fill in workbooks, but students need to write down vocabulary words that they do not know yet. (20 min - 55)

4) Complete the rest of the vocabulary using OT 38 - 39.  (20 min - 1:15)

5) Assign PW 7 - 3, 7 - 4. Will be due on Wednesday.

 

Thursday, January 12, 2006; Day 7

 

TLW use vocabulary related to weather and clothing items.

 

1) Translate sentences from OT - 1) should we ski in Colorado or scuba dive in Florida when we go on Vacation.  Then do quiz corrections.

2) Hand out the Chapter 7 project papers “Vamos de Vacaciones”  Discuss.  Take students to the library.  Students must have chosen city and written at least 5 facts.

 

Friday, January 13, 2006; Day 8 (12:15 dismissal)

 

TLW use vocabulary related to weather and clothing items.

 

1) Compare, then trade and grade PW 7-3, 7-4. (15 min) (10 points)

2)  Go through the bingo cards, saying what each one means.  Then play bingo.  I say words in English, they then say them back in Spanish if they win.  Give prizes to the winners.                  (15 min - 30)

3) Complete act. 7, 8, 9 pages 226-7 complete each exercise with a different person.

     (20 min - 50)

4) Do communicative act. 7-1.  Student A on one side B on the other.  I call on someone to ask question, other group has one minute to form response.  Then I call on someone to respond.  If correct, they earn a point.  They write down answers and hand in. (20 min - 1:10)

5) Take quiz 7-3, 7-4. Do all of 7-3 and part A of 7-4

1) Translate from OT: 1) When I go to Seattle,  I need an umbrella because it rains a lot.  2) I'm going to Mexico for vacation.  3) I plan to see the pyramids.  4) What are you going to take in your suitcase. (10 min)

2) Do quiz corrections. (20 min - 30)

3) When done with quiz corrections, have students say, Can I get a drink of water, I want some Taco Bell, I plan to go skiing.  Write puedo on board, go through conj. of o-ue stem changers, include jugar (15 min - 45)

4) Allow students 10 minutes to complete PW 7-5, then discuss as a class.  Students read sentences. (20 min - 1:05)

5) Complete activity 1, page 234 as a class. (15 min - 1:20)

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 18, 2006; Day 11

 

TLW be able to conjugate stem-changing verbs.

 

1) WOB Everyone give me a sentence telling me something that these people can do.  1) Bart, 2) Maggie, 3) Lisa, 4) Milhouse y yo, 5) Barney, Carl, Lenny   Then have someone conjugate poder on board (15 min)

2) Do the pensar and querer OT.  Have students create the conjugations of these two verbs based on what they already know. (20 min - 35)

3) Do act 5 p. 237 as a group.  Change "va a" to "querer" (10 min - 45)

4) Do the verb practice book "para practicar"  Have students fill out, then write answers on OT. (20 min - 1:05)

5) Ask and answer the question "Do you want to ... with me?  I'm sorry, but I can't.  I plan to...  Students ask 5 people  Must turn in sentences that say: "Mario can't... with me because he plans to ... (20 min - 1:25)

6) Assign PW 7-7, 7-8 (5 min - 1:30)

 

 

 

Thursday, January 19, 2006; Day 12

 

TLW be able to conjugate stem-changing verbs.

 

1) Use these verbs in a sentence:  empezar (e - ie) - begin, almorzar (o-ue) - to eat lunch, entender (e-ie) - to understand, poder (o-ue) - can, to be able, jugar (u-ue) - to play (15 min)

2) Trade and grade PW 7-7, 7-8 (no discussing) (10 min - 25)

3) With partner, do the communicative act. 7-2.  Students must hand in! (25 min - 50)

4) Have board races with stem-changing verbs.

5) Watch slides of Spain and Mexico.

Friday, January 20, 2006; Day 13

1) Have students conjugate poder, querer, pensar. on board (5 min)

2) Take quiz 7-5, 7-7, 7-8 (30 points)  (30 min - 35min)

3)  When done with quiz, translate from OT into NOTES.  1) I want to go to the beach to sunbathe.  2) We plan to go to Costa Rica to explore the forrest.

     Go through using para + infinitive (20 min - 55)

4) Do Act. 4 page 235. (10 min - 1:05)

5) Go through the personal a on OT. Then do text exercise. (15 min - 1:20)

6) Assign PW 7-9

 

 

Monday, January 23, 2006; Day 14

 

TLW be able to conjugate stem-changing verbs.

TLW be able to use the personal a and the form para + infinitive.

 

1) Do quiz corrections for quizzes 7-5, 7-6, 7-7 (20 min)

2) Trade and grade PW 7-9 (no discussion) (5 min - 25)

3)  Complete writing exercises E p. 44 and G p. 46 and discuss. (15 min - 40)

4) Writing Exercise:  create sentences - using various forms, students score points

                        subj./verb & noun/adj = 1pt

                        use a stem changer      = 1pt

                        use para + infinitive    = 1pt

                        use personal a             = 1pt

     Must score 24 total points.  Sentences must make sense.  Anyone with more than 24 points, receives a free homework certificate.  (25 min - 1:05)

5) Students have the rest of the block to finish and hand in projects.
