PHILOSOPHY OF SCHUYLER CENTRAL HIGH
SCHOOL
The Schuyler Central High School Board of Education
believes that its
responsibility is to provide all students
Educational opportunities which meet the needs of students
and the
community which it serves; to promote such
development within individuals so that individuals may
desire and
discover
knowledge and ultimately assume a
responsible role as a citizen in society and be able to
adjust to the
changing situations within society.
Opportunities shall be provided on the basis of individual
differences,
abilities and capabilities, in an atmosphere
which is intended to motivate individual creativeness and
to develop a
feeling of personal satisfaction upon attaining
plateaus of success.
These opportunities are:
1. To obtain an education, considering personal interest
abilitiesand needs.
2. To learn citizenship and democracy, emphasizing
interest and
participation in world and community problems.
3. To develop emotionally, morally, and socially so the
individual is
increasingly able to cope with life's problems.
4. To develop a healthy body.
5. To develop cultural and aesthetic appreciation.
All of the educational facilities that are under the
jurisdiction of the
Schuyler Central High School Board of Education -- indeed
the Board itself
-- exists but for the explicit purpose of providing the
best possible
educational opportunities for the students who are
enrolled. It shall be
the purpose of all deliberations of this Board to improve
the total
educational atmosphere of our school while at the same
time to safeguard
the inherent rights of each student to be considered as an
individual.
The students who are enrolled at this school shall be
prepared to better
conduct themselves as citizens of this nation, state, and
community.While
it shall always be the policy of this Board to maintain
acceptable
standards of education in relationship to other schools on
a national and
state level, it shall be considered of the utmost
importance to reflect
qualities that make the Schuyler community unique High
Standards of
quality shall be at all times be maintained and higher
standards of
quality shall be established whenever the opportunity
affords itself.
It shall be recognized that the Schuyler Central High
School District is
an organ of Nebraska State Government and that all
statutes of the State supersede any policies, roles or
regulations contained herein and any instances where
conflicts arise.
STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES
1. To provide an educational atmosphere where the
individual student may pursue a recommended course of study.
2. To prepare youth for college and higher levels of
learning or to provide opportunities forthem to acquire basic
saleable skills Which would enable them to compete in the labor
market uponcompletion of their formal education.
3. To develop competence in oral and written communicative
skills.
4, To develop a program which is of such scope that it
meets the needs of all students ranging from the low achiever to the
exceptional child.
5. To provide a guidance program which meets the needs of
the students.
6. To provide a program which will help to develop a finer
appreciation for the arts, life and our surroundings.
7. To develop interests which enrich leisure time.
8. To encourage each child to work at the upper limits of
their own capabilities, to appreciate and preserve each individual's
own dignity.
9. To develop high moral and spiritual values in every day
living and to provide for democratic living by participating in
student government activities and organizations.
10. To encourage intelligent, logical thinking and the use
of sound judgment in the solution of life's daily problems.
